In addition to the course-assigned reading during the fourth quarter, you will be completing an independent reading project (IRP) on an A.P.-level novel of your choice. The IRP is the equivalent of the second semester exam. It has five required components:

    1. An Experience, Interpretation, and Evaluation Essay (approx. 3 pages) –100 points
    2. A SIFT worksheet – 50 points
    3. Passage Analysis Essay (passage + approx. 2 pages) – 100 points
     4. An A.P. style exam (you’ll be making this, not taking this) – 100 points
     5. An Analytical Essay (approx. 5-7 pages) – 400 points

Step One: Choose Your Novel
We'll get into all the details about this project later, but for now all you need to do is find a novel that you want to work with. There are a few criteria to follow when choosing. Please download the assignment packet and read page one on "choosing your novel."

DOWNLOAD: The IRP Project Assignment Packet (PDF)

This is your opportunity to study a novel or a play of your own choosing. Do some research and find one that you will enjoy reading, studying, and analyzing. On March 12/B1 or March 13/A3 you will be submitting to me a list of three novels or plays that you'd like to read for this project. Each student in your class block will read a unique book. In other words, no two students in the same class will read the same book for this project.

The final IRP project will be due on May 6 - the date of the A.P. exam.

In Class Group Assignment

Today you'll be working on an activity regarding "The Man of Law's Tale" in your short story groups. After that you'll be completing a "Theme & Thesis Building" worksheet in preparation for Thu's/Fri's in-class essay.
